WILL-TVs Prairie Fire crew filmed the opening of a Sweitzer & Sweitzer furniture exhibition at the Ann Lloyd Gallery in Decatur, Illinois and then moved to the Sweitzer & Sweitzer Fine Furniture workshop to film John and Charlie working and talking about their vision of furniture making.

In 2005 John was awarded the James R. Thompson Merit Award for Excellence in Craft from the Illinois Artisans' Association. Three awards are presented annually to Illinois Artisans' Program artisans who exhibit a high level of artistry in their medium. The winners were jury-selected from a broad range of submitted work in fine craft.
John's award-winning pieces were displayed with the winning artwork of other artists in the Illinois Artisans' Gallery Gift Shop housed in the James R. Thompson building located at 100 West Randolph Street in downtown Chicago. During 2006, the winning artwork will be exhibited in other Illinois Artisans' galleries in Springfield and Rend Lake, Illinois.
John's winning pieces and additional work are currently exhibited in the Boneyard Pottery Gallery at 403 Water Street in Champaign, Illinois and the Illinois Artisans' Gallery Gift Shop at Rend Lake, located in Whittington, Illinois.
